In 1982 a classified advertisement in a local newspaper attracted a nucleus of 60 enthusiastic and dedicated people who evolved into today’s active volunteers who offer and participate in a wide variety of stimulating educational, cultural, and social activities. Although primarily an adult community, the Jewish Congregation of Marco Island has the staff and flexibility to offer children’s programs and tutoring as required. The current professional staff includes Cantorial Soloist Hari Jacobsen, a president and board of directors.
Something new at JCMI: for the benefit of those who may not be available to attend our regular Shabbat Torah-reading on Saturday mornings, we will be incorporating a Torah service into our Shabbat evening worship, as well as on the last Friday night of every month.
In part this represents Rabbi Gross's endeavor to "switch it up" a bit on Friday nights, to provide "frequent flyers" with a little variety throughout the month. More important, however, it constitutes the Rabbi's desire to to make Shabbat evening worship a richly textured spiritual experience that offers something for everybody.
Services are held at 7:30 p.m. Friday evenings, followed by a lovely Oneg Shabbat. September to April 20, 2018, Saturday Morning Torah Study begins at 9:30 a.m. followed by services (January through March 17, 2018) at 10:30 a.m. Followed by a complimentary lunch.
This Saturday morning's worship service, 3/24/18, has been displaced by the brunch meeting with special guest Rabbi Dan Freelander, Director of the World Union for Progressive Judaism.
